State Capital of West Virginia
Charleston, WV
President Abraham Lincoln, declared West Virginia as a state, the only state to be designated by a Presidential Proclamation.
The seat of West Virginia's Capital changed hands between the cities of Wheeling, and Charleston several times.
Finally In 1875, an election was held and Charleston was voted to be the permanent location.
The capital was destroyed by fire twice, once in 1921, and then again in 1927.
The gold capped building that we see today was completed on February 1932.
