The Cattail
Has many uses, the young tender shoots are edible raw or cooked. You can pound the rhizome to remove the starch and use as a flour. The dried leaves can be used for weaving. The fluff makes excellent tinder. Dried catails are an effective insect repellent when burned. The Native Americans of the area used the pollen as an accelerant for their rifles.
